How did you get started?
I began playing sports in boarding school at a very young age because it was a part of our curriculum and we just had to do it. Then I actually began enjoying it and then it became a part of me.
Where does your motivation come from?
From my mum. She’s so brilliant! She’s 56 and works out like a boss. She never misses her workout and she’s so focused and disciplined. She always encourages me.
How do you feel your flexibility helps you both in and out of the gym?
It enhances my performance. It’s very important to build flexibility because it allows you avoid stiffness and stress in the muscles.
What workout routine has worked best for you?
I’m a runner. So what works for me is a good warm up- my assigned distance run and a great cool down session. My training has a schedule and during the week what I do is a combination of core strengthening exercises, stamina building workouts, high intensity interval training and speed workouts. I also have a rest day and swim because it relaxes me.
If you had to pick only 3 exercises what would they be and why?
The plank! It’s my absolute favourite. It is great for strengthening your back and it’s fantastic for your core muscles. I love the feeling that I get when I’m doing the planks.
My second favourite are squats it’s great for you core muscles and is a good exercise for your lower body. It gives your body a great definition.
The third exercise I like are the leg raises. They directly impact your lower abs and focus straight on the core and I’m a big fan of any exercise that builds my core and leave me with a lingering sore pain that I tells me the exercise is working.
What is your diet like?
I’m a vegetarian and I love a home cooked meal that’s not too oily or buttery. I get my protein from pulses and soya. I eat only brown rice and I love me a great feta cheese and olive salad. I have dry-fruits, berries and Kale chips as a healthy snack
What’s the one food you couldn’t live without, and how do you handle food cravings?
Feta cheese and olives I love the combination. I don’t control my cravings, I eat what I feel like, I do it in moderation and I workout.
What’s something not many people know about you?
That I’ve never been on a diet. I don’t deprive myself from eating anything. I just eat right and it’s now a habit.
It never gets easier, you just get better.
