How did you get started?
Fitness was not something that just happened to me. It was definitely not because of some health problem that I decided to start working out. I was very self conscious and did not like the way I felt about myself. I wanted to change that and be like the other skinny girls who can go jeans shopping without having to feel embarrassed. Of-course at that time I was not aware of what being fit actually feels like. And now I would never think about wanting to be skinny. Since I was always fond of dancing, that is what I started with.
Where does your motivation come from?
I never compare myself with anybody else and always work towards being better than what I was yesterday. The feeling of accomplishing that, the feeling of getting stronger and getting better keeps me motivated.
How do you feel your flexibility helps you both in and out of the gym?
Working out has helped me so much with my life. It not only improves you physically, but also with your mental strength. The gym has made me a very disciplined person. Just the way I push against heavy weights at the gym just to get stronger, I push through the difficulties I face in everyday life that makes me into a better person.
What workout routine has worked best for you?
Over the past few years, I’ve tried a lot of different programs, both inside and outside of the gym. The program that worked the most for me is what I’m following right now. I made a workout routine for myself that would keep me connected with my goals, considering my strengths and the areas that I need to work on. My current routine is:
Day 1 – Quads and Calves + HIIT
Day 2 – Push workout (Chest, Shoulders and Triceps) + LISS
Day 3 – Pull workout (Back and Biceps) + HIIT
Day 4 – Hamstrings, Glutes and Calves
Day 5 – Arms (Shoulders, Biceps and Triceps) + LISS
Day 6 – HIIT + Full body stretching
I usually do the LISS and HIIT outdoors and preferably at a different time.
If you had to pick only 3 exercises what would they be and why?
Okay, this is tricky. The first one would definitely be squats because.. Every girl loves working on those glutes. Second would be deadlifts, simply because I love it. The last one would have to be glute kickback, I love the burn.
What is your diet like?
I am not a sponsored athlete or a professional trainer so I definitely cannot afford to spend too much on supplements and other “fitness stuff”! I follow IIFYM (If it fits your macros) aka Flexible dieting. Also, I’m a vegetarian. So, I make sure that I get sufficient protein, majority of which comes from dairy and pulses.
What’s the one food you couldn’t live without, and how do you handle food cravings?
I absolutely love chocolate cookies. It is very hard to resist them but I’ve trained my mind to eat them only once a week (I only have one!). When you’re very focused on your goal, you become strong enough mentally to be able to resist all that can come in the way of your goals. I treat myself with foods that fit in my macros and that are healthy and delicious. I certainly do not starve myself so my body doesn’t crave too much for food that I shouldn’t eat.
What’s something not many people know about you?
I love acting and I’ve done quite a few plays. I also love roller-skating.
