Many people fall trap in the vicious cycle of gaining fat, working hard for a few months, shedding it and later giving it up. But why? The challenge is how to make it a lifestyle, to make it as necessary as brushing teeth in the morning. Working out and staying motivated is more work of the mind than the body (mind over body). It’s the way to trick our mind but the question is how we choose to trick it. So, here are few tricks to conquer over the excuses:

 

 

  • NEVER MISS A MONDAY

 

This is the most important promise to make to oneself. After a restful weekend, it is necessary to get back on track. It helps in building up the routine and does not break the motivation. One may also call it “Motivation Monday.”

 

  • DO NOT MISS A WORKOUT FOR THREE CONSECUTIVE DAYS

 

Missing a workout for more than two days in a row is a deal breaker. Its not mandatory to work out everyday as people have a busy lifestyle but even if the routine is to work out for four days in week, try to make it every alternate day.

 

 

  • WORKOUT WHEN YOU ARE TIRED

 

We all have twenty hours in a day to make it productive. The idea is not to exhaust our body but many a times it is used as an excuse. Working out does not make us lethargic, on the contrary it keeps the energy levels high. Usually, such feeling occurs when we are on a vacation. But isn’t it exciting to work out in a new environment? Workout is a meditation and not an obligation. Our body releases endorphins also known as the happy hormones when we workout, therefore gather some motivation and hit the gym even when you are tired.

 

 

  • KEEP UP THE HEALTHY FOOD

 

Equally important aspect of maintaining a healthy life is eating the right kind of food following the rigorous workout at the gym. Working hard at the gym and eating junk food might give 10% results but healthy food aggravates it to 100%. Moreover, taking a healthy diet (combination of micro and macro nutrients) gives strength to the body in order to perform better. It is important to understand the difference between a healthy diet and healthy lifestyle. Healthy lifestyle is triumphed by eating healthy, exercising right and staying happy.

 

 

  • DON’T AIM TOO HIGH

 

Don’t let the guy doing 120 bench-press underestimate your goals and confidence. People injure themselves aiming too much and exerting their body. Over doing of any exercise will make you tired and sluggish or even lead to muscle tear in severe cases. After such intensity you will see yourself running away and eventually giving up. In order to stay enthused, make sure that your workout isn’t an obligation, rather a therapy.

 

 

  • GO SHOPPING

 

This is the best idea to stay driven. Going shopping for gym wear is the best feeling. Wearing the perfect shoes and smart gym wear not only keeps us hooked to the gym but also builds up the confidence we need in order to exercise efficiently and give that extra power.

 

 

  • PUSH YOURSELF

 

It is important to know the difference between overdoing and pushing oneself. Gradually increasing the intensity step by step gives a sense of accomplishment because after reaching a certain benchmark one can move up to the next level otherwise the workout starts getting boring.

 

 

  • DETACH YOURSELF

 

Make gym the place to detach yourself from any social bonding. Gym is an ultimate place to practice our anti social skills. Workout session of even 40 minutes should be determined solely on your body, movement and breathing. This keeps us focused and you can never complain of boredom when you are talking to your body.

 

 

  • TRY NEW EXERCISES

 

Many people live in this fear of boredom from working out. Workout is not only confined to lifting weights or running on a treadmill everyday. Inculcate new activities like Zumba, boxing, dance or anything of your interest to never lose the grip.

 

 

  • DON’T USE “NO GYM AROUND” EXCUSE

 

Lastly, not very relevant but useful from motivation perspective. The purpose of exercising should be to give a daily dose to an active body. So, do not use that excuse to avoid a session. Do fun cardio or even stretching at home but don’t let ‘no gym around’ excuse get in your way. So, no regrets for having missed a workout session and that’s the ultimate key to keep going.
